And unfazed by the magnitude of the preparations, Patel took charge of organizing every detail, from ensuring water availability for the guests to supervising the handling of thousands of shoes at the venue!
In what would prove to be Sardar Patel’s most enduring legacy, he assumed leadership of the States Department and oversaw the accession of 565 princely states into the Union of India.
